Biei Station Handy Lunch Guide
Where should we go for lunch, today?
Take a break from sightseeing, and enjoy lunch around JR Biei Station!
Even if you're not using a rental car, you don't need to worry. There are plenty of delicious restaurants within walking distance of the station!
Today, we would like to introduce a few of them to you.

A Restaurant & Cafe with a View of the Station - KOERU
Located on the other side of Biei station, KOERU is also a lodging for travellers. Their original menu uses local ingredients, and you can also try Biei's local speciality dish, Biei Curry Udon Noodles! (The noodles in the photograph are baked noodles). In summer, they also open up a deck space where you can also enjoy Hokkaido's much-loved "Genghis Khan" lamb barbecue!

Italian cafe Abete
We highly recommend their pasta lunch set! Their menu is bursting with lots of Hokkaido ingredients, serving an appetiser made from seasonal vegetables, freshly-baked bread, drinks and your choice of one of three seasonal pastas. Incidentally, in the evenings you can also savour their home-made pizzas fired in a stone oven!

Cafe Restaurant Okiraku-Tei
A restaurant famous for their hearty pot-au-feu, stuffed with vegetables, chicken and sausage. The restaurant's interior has a homely feel to it, so we recommend it for those who prefer to enjoy their meal at a slower pace.

Soba-Ten
Crispy tempura made from Hokkaido vegetables! Soba and rice bowls only available at lunch time!
In the evenings, they switch to an "izakaya" (Japanese-style pub) menu, and you can savour fruits of both the ocean and the mountain. All the seating is also private room-style, which is great!

Teuchi Soba Restaurant Bikyu
This restaurant only recently opened in the summer of 2019. They offer two types of buckwheat noodles, one made of 80% stone-ground Biei buckwheat flour and the other made of 20% wheat from Biei. The dipping sauce is also made from carefully-selected Japanese ingredients and is handmade by the shopkeeper himself! The interior is also lovely, with a retro-modern feel to it.

Kappo Koikawa
"Kappo" is a word in Japanese that refers specifically to Japanese dining. This restaurant is particular about using ingredients from Biei and Hokkaido, and the rice served is a variety called "Yume-Hikari", grown in Biei. Their portion sizes are large, and they also serve a superb Chinese cuisine menu! On the second floor, they have an area with spacious Japanese-style seating that gives you a sense of freedom, so you can enjoy a relaxed meal.

At this restaurant, you can enjoy the very finest plump and crispy deep-fried prawns! Their Fried Prawn Rice Bowl is hugely popular ! This is a very well-known shop, so we recommend timing your visit with when they open.

Family Restaurant Daimaru
From tourists to locals, many people gather at this restaurant. Here, you can savour more than just Biei Curry Udon-- you can enjoy Biei Pork Steak, too! Their pork steak is made from a thick cut of pork loin, slow-cooked and then tenderised with a spicy curry flavour. Their menu is also enormous, with every dish a generous serving! This restaurant is tops when it comes to value for money!

Kame Tsuru
This restaurant serves Biei wagyu beef at a reasonable price. Besides this, they also have Biei pork and a sashimi rice bowl. Their menu, lovingly crafted with Hokkaido ingredients, is both extensive and stylishly presented! In the evening, they switch to an izakaya menu based around seasonal ingredients.

Pronounced "Chai", at cyai you can enjoy authentic Chinese Sichuan cooking right here in Biei! From June to October, they serve their limited edition "Whole Tomato Spicy Ramen". The pure red, ripe tomato is refreshing and delicious! Their authentic Sichuan "Mappo Tofu Rice Bowl" is also popular. If you just can't decide what to have, then we recommend you go for the "cyai set", which comes with both spicy ramen and Mappo Tofu!
