Bring Home Biei - Top Souvenir Picks!

If only I could fit this scenery in my suitcase...!

Biei town is beautiful-- it's only natural that you might want to take away something to remember it by!

Unfortunately, airline restrictions being what they are often means that you are quite restricted as to what you can pack both in terms of weight and the goods themselves. What's more, breakable or fragile items that you would like to purchase on holiday might not survive the rough and tumble of a long journey in a suitcase!

To help you out, we have put together a handy guide of flight-friendly Biei souvenirs. We hope that you, your friends and family will enjoy these wonderful gifts, created with our town in mind.

Pretty as a Picture

Biei's scenery is so picturesque that it attracts many photographers, both hobbyists and professionals. If you're not much of a photographer yourself but want to show others Biei's beauty, then head to Shiki-no-Jouhoukan information centre and browse the extensive collection of postcards available! Many of them feature the works of famous photographers living in Biei and perfectly capture the town's incredible beauty.

These beautiful postcards are by renowned Biei photographer Mr. Haruo Kikuchi!

There are not just postcards of the scenery, but also postcards featuring Biei's wildlife! Cute squirrels, cheeky pikas, fluffy bunnies and more. Why not consider these for the animal lover in your life?

What adorable critters! All of these photos were taken by Be my BIEI's very own nature guide!

As well as posters, there are also a number of calendars sold at Shiki-no-Jouhoukan. Again, many of these feature the works of famous photographers. Hang them up on your wall at home and enjoy Biei's seasonal beauty all year round!

Enjoy beautiful, seasonal pictures of Biei with a monthly calendar. There are also glossy photobooks compiling the best works of Biei's photographers on sale, too.

A Taste of Biei

Vegetables! Meat! Dairy produce! It all looks so delicious... but it's too bad you can't take such things on international flights, and sending them overseas is so expensive...

Fortunately for you, there are still plenty of edible Biei gifts that capture the region's food!

Wheat is one of Biei's main crops and it of course makes up the basis of most sweet snacks! Why not savor Biei's wheat and scenery at the same time with these artisan cookies, made with Biei wheat and created in the image of Biei's patchwork hills?

Don't they just make you think of a certain popular flower park?

They are also part of our special "Bieitiful" brand, a range of locally-made products that get to the heart of Biei town. You can buy these beautiful cookies at Ferme La Terre Biei, an artisan bakery and patisserie not far from Hokusei-no-Oka view park.

These yummy snack bags are part of the Oka-no-Okashi range, another Bieitiful-branded product. The range features freeze-dried Biei produce like beans and sweetcorn kernels. Not only are these snacks healthy, they are also very delicious!

Freeze-dried Biei produce-- more healthy and more natural than candy, but just as sweet!

You can find Oka no Okashi as well as many more suitcase-friendly Biei-made snacks at Biei Senka, a luxury farm shop specialising in Biei-grown produce.

Speaking of artwork inspired by Biei's hills, have you heard of tenugui? They are a traditional Japanese cotton cloth, often featuring beautiful designs.

Here in Biei, you can find beautiful Biei-inspired tenugui at Suzuran, Biei's oldest coffee shop! They are made with traditional methods outside of town, but the motifs and designs are often inspired by Biei's scenery and produce.

These tenugui have been cleverly designed to fold up like fruit and vegetables!

Tenugui are incredibly useful. You can use them as dish rags, trendy scarves, face towels or even an eco-friendly gift-wrap! Why not take this element of traditional Japan home with you from Biei?
