Asparagus, the distinctive food in Biei
Biei is one of the largest producers of asparagus in Hokkaido. Asparagus is available in local restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops.
Biei town produces the biggest shipment volume of agricultural products among all individual agricultural cooperatives in Hokkaido. Asparagus grown in the polytunnels are in season in the middle of April, and asparagus grown outside is best from the beginning of May, but the peak season for enjoying asparagus is from the start of May through to mid June. Biei's fertile terrain and weather in spring creates about 10 degrees temperature difference between day and night, which produces a notable sweetness and taste that you won't experience in other asparagus. If you find them in the local restaurants and cafes, we highly recommend that you try them. Asparagus make a great Hokkaido souvenir.

Roadside station Biei "Okanokura", Koumugi Restaurant, Terrace de Saison at Hotel Lavenir and bi.yell café will all offer foods based on an asparagus-themed menu at this event.
